Strangers in the Sky by Zeeclaw Strangers in the Sky by Zeeclaw
Day 6 Favorite book:

Looks like the gusts of wind are blowing strongly today..

Rant:
Grrrr! this was the one that kept me back too long from the challenge. I thought "how great if i could challenge myself with cool colors, new angles, and movement?" well.. I was WrrrooOOnng! It caused me to be late for my other topics + gave me so much trouble with lots of other stuff :(. I still thought that I might as well go through with it all the way. Was going to add a TTA book in front of twilight since she loves books too, but I ran out of time and had to get it done eventually.
Rant over:

A tribute to the great Peter Elson, (one of the best Sci Fi artists ever) and my favorite books! These guys were a huge contribution on me and why I fell in love with Sci Fi stuff.

The Terran Trade Authority books were some of my favorites growing up!  The stories were so inventive and the ship designs were colorful and unusual.  It's too bad you don't see those kinds of ship designs in sci-fi anymore. Everything's always gray, angular, and practical.   But I have a feeling that if MLP ever did space opera, Peter Elson is who they would turn to for inspiration.

Wow - no wonder this one took you so long! Definitely a nice tribute.

It was well worth the time you spent on it. It looks fantastic! :D

Yes! So much yes! We could use more TTA/MLP crossovers like this! For the sake of awesomeness everywhere.

Hells yes! The Galactic Encounters books were among my favorites as a kid, and one of the main reasons I'm such a SF fan now as an adult. :)

I remember having a book that took Peter Elson (and maybe similar) pics and tried to build a coherent plotline to string them all together. It was less than coherent.

Beautiful! Elson was superb. I collected all the TTA and Galactic Encounters books, Parallel Lines, and more because of the little "PE" in the corner of so many works. The digitally-remade TTA books were a pale shadow of the originals.

Many thanks to you, Zeeclaw, for combining two great passions of mine! Nicely done.

When I saw the TTA series.. it was when I was like 5 - 8 years old, tucked on a shelf in my old house in germany. Back then I didn't even know what series was about, but the space ships fascinated me to no end and those epic images were burned into my mind. Fast forward around 20 years later, a fellow Brony commented on one of my Starship drawings and said that it looked similar in the style of Peter Elson and Chris Foss. Its sad to hear that the new reprints are not as great as the originals though..

Just saw this on EQD, and my first thought was...
"Dayum, that looks like Chriss Foss' art style"
Comparing them both, Peter Elson's work does bear strong similarities with that of Chris Foss, you should check it out!
